Clothing

  • Neutral-colour long-sleeve shirts (khaki, olive, stone)
  • Neutral T-shirts
  • Lightweight trousers or safari pants
  • Shorts
  • Warm fleece or jacket for early morning drives
  • Windproof outer layer
  • Sun hat with brim
  • Buff / neck scarf for dust
  • Swimwear for lodge pools

Footwear

  • Closed walking shoes
  • Sandals or slip-ons for the lodge
  • Warm socks for winter mornings

Documents

  • Passport valid 6+ months with 2 blank pages
  • Visa if required (check official government sources)
  • Printed itinerary and lodge vouchers
  • Travel insurance policy and emergency numbers
  • Emergency contacts

Toiletries & health

  • Prescription medication (labelled)
  • Malaria prophylaxis as prescribed
  • High-SPF sunscreen
  • Insect repellent (DEET or picaridin)
  • Basic first-aid: plasters, antihistamine, rehydration
  • Personal toiletries

Electronics & camera

  • Camera body and lenses

What not to pack

  • Bright colours (especially blue and black on walking safaris)
  • Camouflage patterns (restricted in South Africa)
  • Hard-shell suitcases if flying by light aircraft — soft bags only
