Season-by-season planning notes for the Kruger. Weather patterns vary year to year — this is a planning aid, not a forecast.

Dry season (May – October)

  • Sparse vegetation — excellent game viewing
  • Cool early mornings, mild days
  • Waterholes concentrate wildlife
  • Pack layers, fleece and buff
  • Peak season — book early

Green season (November – April)

  • Lush landscapes, dramatic skies
  • Newborn wildlife and predator activity
  • Excellent birding with migrants present
  • Warmer, wetter — pack rain shell and insect repellent
  • Better rates and lower occupancy

Birding highlights

  • Migrant birds arrive from October / November
  • Raptor activity peaks late summer
  • Bring binoculars and a field guide

Photography considerations

  • Dry season — clean sightlines, dust and golden light
  • Green season — dramatic skies, newborns, richer colour
  • Golden hours regardless of season

Family & senior travel

  • Winter mornings are cold — pack warm layers
  • Green season heat and humidity can be intense
  • Confirm lodge minimum ages with Wanderer

Packing adjustments

  • Dry: extra warm layer, buff, thermal base
  • Green: rain shell, quick-dry clothing, insect repellent
