  • Book twelve months ahead for the top camps in peak season

Seven days is the duration where a Kruger safari stops being a trip and starts becoming an experience. With six nights split between two contrasting camps you get the calm pace of a long stay, the variety of two reserves, and time enough to do the experiences — walking, balloon, sleep-out, photographic hide — that the shorter itineraries usually have to skip.

## Who a 7-day luxury safari is for

Repeat guests who want depth rather than novelty. Photographers who need time on the light. Honeymooners on a longer trip. Anyone for whom the safari is the entire holiday, and who wants to feel completely unhurried in the bush by day three.

## How the itinerary works

**Day 1 — Johannesburg to first camp.** Fly to Skukuza or a private airstrip; afternoon drive on arrival.

**Days 2 and 3 — Full safari days in camp one.** Settle into the territory. Add a walking safari or photographic hide.

**Day 4 — Transfer to second camp.** A short charter flight or scenic road transfer to a contrasting reserve. Afternoon drive on arrival.

**Days 5 and 6 — Full safari days in camp two.** Different traversing, different guides, a different angle on the same Greater Kruger ecosystem. Balloon flight on the morning of day five if conditions allow.

**Day 7 — Final morning and departure.** A last drive, an unhurried breakfast, and a flight back to Johannesburg or onwards to Cape Town or Victoria Falls.

## Two contrasting reserves

The most-repeated luxury split is three nights in Sabi Sand followed by three nights in Timbavati. Sabi Sand for the leopard density and the polished luxury, Timbavati for the wilder feel and more bush-led pace. Repeat photographers often pair Sabi Sand with MalaMala instead, for the famously open traversing. Honeymooners sometimes swap Timbavati for an ultra-private villa in Sabi Sand for the second half.

## Experiences worth booking ahead

Balloon flights launch on a handful of mornings each week. Sleep-outs at lodges such as Lion Sands' Chalkley Treehouse book months ahead. Private photographic vehicles cap their occupancy. Walking safaris with armed trails guides need to be requested at the booking stage rather than on arrival.

## Combining with Cape Town and Victoria Falls

Seven Kruger nights plus four Cape Town nights plus two Victoria Falls nights is the most-booked extended South African luxury circuit. We arrange every internal flight and transfer so you never carry your own luggage between airports.

## Wanderer expert recommendation

Don't be tempted by a third reserve in the same trip. Three camps in seven days erodes the calm that the duration is meant to buy you. Two contrasting reserves, plus excellent experiences inside each, beats a tour of every concession.

Frequently asked questions

Is 7 days too long for a Kruger safari?+

Not for the right traveller. Photographers, repeat guests and honeymooners on longer trips consistently get more out of a week than they do out of five days. First-time guests with limited interest in wildlife sometimes find five days enough.

Should I stay at one lodge for all seven nights?+

Photographers often do, because the guides learn your style and predator territories settle by night three. Most other guests prefer to split between two contrasting reserves for the variety.

How do inter-camp transfers work?+

Either a short charter flight (≈ 20–30 minutes) or a scenic road transfer (≈ 1–3 hours, depending on the pair). We sequence the day so you still get an afternoon drive at the second camp.

Which reserves pair best for a 7-day safari?+

Sabi Sand + Timbavati is the most-repeated luxury split. Sabi Sand + MalaMala for predator photographers. Sabi Sand + Kapama for a malaria-low transition for families.

Can I combine 7 Kruger nights with Cape Town and Victoria Falls?+

Yes — and it is one of our most popular extended itineraries. Allow at least four nights in Cape Town and two in Vic Falls. We arrange every connection.

Are there any unique experiences I should book ahead?+

Yes — balloon flights, sleep-outs (such as Lion Sands' Chalkley Treehouse), private photographic vehicles and walking safaris with armed trails guides all need to be requested at booking.

When is the best time of year for a 7-day luxury safari?+

May–September for game viewing and dry comfort. April and October are excellent shoulder months. Green season (Nov–Mar) suits photographers who want dramatic skies and newborn antelope.

How much does a 7-day luxury Kruger safari cost?+

Plan for upper four-figures per person per night at the leading camps in peak season, with significant savings in shoulder months. We provide live pricing on enquiry.

Will I get bored of game drives by day six?+

No — most repeat guests say the opposite. The longer you stay, the more rewarding the drives become as the guides tune the experience around your interests.

Is a 7-day safari suitable for honeymoons?+

Yes, and it remains one of our most-booked honeymoon structures. Pair it with three to four nights in Cape Town for a complete two-week South African honeymoon.
